A- burans father says this, he says this in the beggining of the book he is speaking of his daughters he doesn't care if he's poor his daughters mean way more to him.
2)“You have a most educated eye my daughter? (P.35) What of Burhan is revealed here?
A. What's reavelead is she is intellegent. which is very hard to come by in that part of the world at that time. I say this because it was a very traditional norm and custom for the women to be illiterate, unintelligent housewives. Now we know that Buran has wits and intellect.
3) Who is Gindar?
A- Gindar the cheif is the leader of the camel caravan across the dessert
4. “ A man on my caravan will tell you as much about himself as he wants you to know.” P. What does this foreshadow?
A. this foreshadows the art of secrecy. Now Buran/ Nasir will have to be very seceretive about her identity is she wants to make this work. otherwise this plan could go down the toilet.
5. Coming of Age: Read the first full paragraph on p. 40 ( A bend in the suq…..) and explain how this paragraphs shows coming of age?
A coming-of-age story or novel is memorable because the character undergoes adventures and/or inner turmoil in his/her growth and development as a human being. Some characters come to grips with the reality of cruelty in the world--with war, violence, death, racism, and hatred--while others deal with family, friends, or community issues. “It would be better to attempt to cross the desert by myself and die on the journey, my bones picked clean by vultures and left to bleach in the sun then go back home.” Why is Nasir saying this?
A- because determination is an excellent value to keep, it also shows persistant, and how badly YOU want to reach that goal. Nasir has in fact been humuiliated, and to not dissapoint her father she must keep to her goal.
